Sadhana Bakthi Part 3

My humble pranams to my brothers and sisters on the Divine Truth
In the last posting we talked about surrender (sharanagathi). Keeping in mind that surrender is with the involvement of the mind, and the body does not need to surrender. Surrendering the body will result in nothing except waste of time. The mind is a very intricate matter. I would say that the mind is a very complex creative creation by God Himself to show His creativity. In the modern world today Artificial Intelligence has not yet reached the state of the mind yet. Like the computer there is a primary drive and the slave drive, the same with us the conscious mind and the sub conscious mind. We have not yet learnt to control the conscious mind what more to talk of the sub conscious mind. Surrender of the mind is in the conscious part of application which ends in the subconscious level. Just because we know now that the subconscious mind will be awakened we cannot begin to develop the subconscious mind. We have to deal with the conscious mind matter first. Remember discipline is something that has to begin with a gross entity, similarly surrender has to begin with the conscious mind and with that your body should be involved with the alignment of the mind and the body’s psychokinetic evolvement. (I know its too much mumbo jumbo on the scientific level).
Let me give you examples of how the mind can be brought to surrender. Sri Krishna has said in the Gita that this mind is Chancala Manah (monkey like). It never stays put in a single place, like a monkey it jumps from place to place never satisfied with the surrounding and the circumstances and always in the look out for greater adventures. That is exactly how our mind is as well; take a few minutes to see where your mind has been in this few moments. Wow it did take a huge tour, didn’t it? Sitting and meditating (the Dry meditation) will not take one anywhere close to even the “light” especially in this Kali Yuga. Active meditation with the chanting of the God’s name, creating the from of God with your mind, shedding tears and longing to be in His service is a sure easy way. (Yeah easily said than done some might say).
This active meditation can be done is several ways, lets take the example of the monkey. The monkey has enjoyed freedom for a long time now, take that monkey and tie a rope to it for 100 feet and see what happens. That monkey that has been on an unlimited freedom now seems to have trouble moving 101 feet because its movement is restricted to the 100 feet. The monkey will try to jump and free itself and to go beyond the 100 feet and sometimes it succeeds due to the poor quality of the rope or the rope itself not being tied properly. The rope is changed or the rope is then tied properly again and the monkey will continue to jump to get away. Sometime later the monkey realises that the 100 feet limitation is all it will have and it will then behave it self and work within the 100 feet. Now that the monkey is used to the 100 feet limitation lets reduce the limitation to 90 feet. Now again the monkey will feel like he wants to do 95 feet and realizes that he can’t, he struggles and tries and fails and after a while it gets use to the 90 feet limitation. Now slowly keep reducing the limitation lower and lower until it comes to 1 inch. You will realise at that time if you unhook the monkey of the rope the monkey will stay there and it will do all the tricks within that limited space that’s its been trained on. That’s how monkey trainers train the monkeys.
We can do the same thing as well with our mind, this mind is been on an unlimited adventure. Every hour remind yourself that’s God is with me and he is watching me. Initially you will do it for the first 2 hours but on the third hour you might forget to remind your self He is with me and He is watching me. Well it will all depend on how much of remorse and guilt you will have for not having Him in your memory and you will remind yourself to be more conscious of your Sadhana and vigilant of your action. Once you have become used and well versed with the one hour limitation of remembering the Lord now reduce the limitation to every 45 minutes, Keep doing it until you are well versed with it and reduce it further to 30 minutes and 15 minutes and 10 minutes and 5 minutes and 3 minutes and 1 minute and 30 seconds and it goes lower till its every second. At this stage you would realise that you are fully conscious of the Lord. With you doing roop dhyan (creating the beautiful form of God) in your mind, you limiting the mind to remind yourself that He is with me and watching me and you have the grace of Guru with you all the way, I will assure you that you are already in the path of Sadhana Bakthi. The Goal it’s Him of course. Which part of Him and how? Keep in mind how much of Love you shower upon Him, He shows it back to you. There is no limitation here how much of love you want to exchange, the more you limit the less you get and the more you give the more you receive.

“O Uddhava! We have only one mind and that is with Syamasundar (Krishna). If we had many minds, then we could have used each one in different direction, and managed both devotion to God and the world”. But God was aware of the fact that if each individual was to be given two minds then no one would have been able to fulfill the condition of ‘maamekam sharanam vraja’-Gita, i.e. surrender to God alone.
Shri Maharaji says “surrender of the mind alone is true surrender to God, what ever the physical actions are. Now the question is what is the difficulty in surrender of the mind? The only difficulty is that the mind has been attached to the material world since time immemorial, and this attachment has become very firm. Had the mind been neither attached to the world nor God, then surrender would have been effortless”.
