Sadhana Bakthi Part 2
Sadhana Bakthi Part 2
Brother and Sisters of the Divine Truth.
When one pickups himself and decide to do Sadhana Bakthi Sri Maharaji reminds every devotee that keeping in mind the above theory (in Sadhana Bakthi Part 1) we must aspire to reach Sri Krishna in unified manner. Many of you know the 5 modes or levels of Divine Love in the bakthi world. That is Shanta Bhav (King - Subject relationship), Dasya Bhav (Master – Servant relationship), Shakya Bhav (friend – friend relationship), Vatsalya Bhav (Mother – Child relationship) and Madhurya Bhav (Lover – Beloved relationship). These relationships are all available to you all you have to do is practice Sadhana Bakthi and move in these modes of relationship.
Before we begin on these remember what was said in the last e-mail posting about the real nature of the world and the nature of yourself. Keep in mind these things Maya comes in various temptations and we can succumb to it easily. Sri Krishna has said in the Gita: -
Daivi hyesa gunamayi mama maya duratyaya
Mamaeva ye papadyante mayametam taranti te
This cosmic power of Mine called Maya, consisting of the three modes ( satvic, tamasic and rajasic) can only be crossed by one who surrenders to Me.
Ah ha! So this surrender is a must? Yes it is. What do we surrender? The body or the mind? The mind of course. Why ?
Mana eva manusyanam karanam bandhamoksayoh
Mind alone is the cause of bondage and liberation.
Sri Maharaji says, the cause of both bondage and freedom is the mind. Hence, it’s the mind alone that has to be surrendered to God. Surrender of the mind amounts to surrender of everything. What usually happens is that we worship God physically and surrender the mind to the material world. The reward we receive is bound to be according to our attachment. Therefore, material attachments will result in attainment of the material world. Our attainments are always in accordance to the attachment of the mind. Now if we perform good or bad actions with the body, but do nothing with the mind, except surrender to God, then we will not be rewarded for our physical actions, but instead attain spiritual benefit. Thus, surrender of the mind is actual surrender. Just as its impossible to run with the feet tied, or talk with the mouth closed, its impossible to devote oneself to God with the mind attached elsewhere. In reality, its only the attachment of the mind which is referred to as devotion in the spiritual realm. But the same attachment, if directed to the material world is infatuation. Its impossible to manage both attachment to the world and devotion to God simultaneously, because the mind can only be attached to one area at one time. Besides the material and the spiritual are totally opposite worlds.
There is a story concerning some ignorant men of Mathura, who wanted to go to Prayag. They decided to travel by boat, under the intoxicating herb, they rowed all night, only to find themselves still in Mathura the next morning. What had actually happened was that they had forgotten to untie their boat. In the same way, what ever worship we perform, we will find ourselves still bound to the material world if the mind is attached to wealth, wife, children, status, and so on. This is because there is no true devotion, but only physical recitation of prayers……..(Extraction from the Philosophy of Divine Love by Jagadguru Kripalu Mahaprabhu).
There is another example that I would like to share with all of you as well, some of you would have heard this example before. You are driving a car on the street and you friend is a passenger sitting next to you, suddenly there is an accident, it was found that it was your fault that the accident had happened. In such a situation the blame would befell you the driver and not the passenger of the car. That is the reality of the world. Would you not agree? That’s because you are the action doer with that there is the attachment of the mind in the material action of yours. In the same situation lets look at the picture of the Mahabarat war, now pay attention to Sri Krishna’s chariot. Who is sitting on the driver’s seat? Sri Krishna of course. Who is sitting on the passenger’s seat? Arjuna of course. Now why are we sitting on the driver’s seat when we can have the Lord sitting on the driver’s seat and we can sit on the passenger’s seat? So long we sit on the driver’s seat we are bound by our action and karma binds us. That’s the reason why Sri Krishna says to Arjuna “give me your mind and intellect”. “Let ME be the doer,” says Sri Krishna. We see here that surrender is an important factor in Sadhana Bakthi, without which one cannot progress in the path of devotion.
