Jagadguru Diwas 2012

Makar Sankranti is the first Hindu festival of the solar calendar and is celebrated with great devotion, zeal and fervour on 14 January each year. It falls on the day when the sun enters the zodiac sign of Makar (Capricorn) and when day and night are of equal duration.
 
On the auspicious date of January 14th,1957, our beloved Shri Maharaj Ji was honoured with the title of `Jagadguru' by the 500 scholars of Kashi Vidvat Parishad in Varanasi, India.

In 1957, Jagadguru Shri Kripaluji Maharaj (Shri Maharaj Ji) was invited by the Kashi Vidvat Parishat, a body of 500 foremost scriptural scholars of Varanasi, India, to speak for nine consecutive days on scriptural philosophy. During this time, Shri Maharaj Ji quoted thousands of verses from hundreds of scriptures and spoke in fluent Sanskrit. He revealed a breadth and depth of Divine understanding that belied his age at that time of only 34 years.
 
Shri Maharaj Ji accepted and proved true the existing philosophies of all the previous Jagadgurus and to the utter amazement of the scholars. He also miraculously reconciled their seeming contradictions. In addition, he proved the significance, importance and supremacy of bhakti (devotion) as the essence of all the Hindu path for this age. To this end, he also explained the practical form of nishkam bhakti, or selfless devotion, which could be followed by anyone.
 
Recognising that only the greatest of Divine personalities could have revealed such knowledge, the scholars of Kashi Vidvat Parishat unanimously bestowed on Shri Maharaj Ji the title of  Jagadguruttam, or Jagadguru of Jagadgurus.
 
Subsequent to his receiving the title of Jagadguru, and for the last 55 years, Shri Maharaj Ji has revealed thousands of verses of devotional literature explaining the form, virtues, names, leelas and abodes of Radha Krishna, and in particular, he has revealed the supremacy of Shri Radha as the absolute supreme form of the Divine existence.
 
We are all trully blessed to be in the era and time of such a great Jagadguru who is alos a Rasik Saint that can deliver a soul to the higest possible goal of life. All glories to Jagagdguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj Ji !!!

Worshiping Radha Krishna

(Synopsis of a talk given by Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj on January 17, 2011, in Bhakti Dham, Manghar, India, explaining this new kirtan verse.) The one who is worshiped (ishta) or the one who is served (sevya) is of many kinds. Some are even mayic or material, such as celestial gods and goddesses. These include Indra, Varuna, Kuber and others. Such ishtas are millions in number. By acquiring spiritual understanding through the teachings of a true Saint, we come to know that the worship of a material personality results in a material consequence. The word deva applies to both celestial beings and to supreme God. Kah paramo devah. Krishno ha vai paramam daivatam. This verse asks: Who is the greatest deva? Here the word deva refers to supreme God. Similarly, the word divya (divine) refers to both material celestial beings and also to God. The word atma (soul) refers to both the individual soul and God.

Kaun duhave gaiya, Kanha topai kaun duhave gaiya? ( Oh Kanhaiya! Who is going to have You milk their cow?) Thakurji (little Krishna) used to go to the house of  Gopis .  This was a daily routine and He used to beg and plead,  “O  Gopi ! Have Me milk your cow.
